Microsoft SoftGrid Pricing and availability
Microsoft acquired SoftGrid back in July, and in August news regarding the new pricing model emerged. At the SoftSummit conference in Santa Clara, California Microsoft has now announced the Desktop Optimization Pack which will be available for Software Assurance (SA) holders at an incredible $10 a year. Thats even more aggressively priced than what was suggested earlier, and looking at what that additional $10 buys you it really looks like an incredible deal. The pricing of this package will definitely encourage enterprises to start using virtualization technology on the desktops as well. While VMware definitely still has the edge in the datacenter virtualization race, with VMware Infrastructure 3, application virtualization on the desktop is a different ballgame all together. Bringing both these technologies together seems like the definitive way of making sure your IT infrastructure is manageable and predictable. Besides Microsoft SoftGrid the pack will include Asset Inventory Service, Advanced Group Policy Management Diagnostics and Recovery Toolset. The latter is what was previously known as the Winternals Administrator's Pak (or at least parts of it). This also means that this will be the first product from Microsoft that includes components acquired when Microsoft bought Winternals and hired Mark Russinovich.Post metadata
